Nonlinear finite element analysis requires deeper insight into structural behavior as it involves the manipulation of matrices and nonlinear equations. These equations are usually iterative in nature, meaning they need to be solved many times to follow the behavior of the structure as it changes. MSC Nastran SOL 400 provides the advanced solver technology that is tuned for performance, as well as automatic load stepping schemes that help reduce solution time without sacrificing accuracy. These schemes are designed to make the process as robust, efficient, and user friendly as possible. The “Smart Default” parameters are specifically adjusted based on the level of nonlinearity in the simulation model.
