For most Aerospace & Automotive applications, dynamic loading is a common contributor to fatigue failure of the structures. Traditional life calculation methods rely on stress and strain data from quasi-static time domain simulations. NEVF calculates fatigue response in the frequency domain instead, where the input is given in the form of PSDs (Power Spectral Density).
Utilizing the new vibration fatigue technology embedded in MSC Nastran, engineers will be able to perform a Random Response analysis and calculate fatigue life and damage responses simultaneously.
Solving fatigue analysis problems in the frequency domain significantly reduces execution time and system resources. For example, performing a Random analysis for very large models can create stress files that are greater than 3000 GB. With NEVF file sizes can be reduced to 30 GB.
The frequency based method is also a more practical approach to multi-load durability calculations, and provides a better understanding of the structure’s dynamic behavior. Finally, MSC Nastran’s optimization technology can be coupled with NEVF to achieve a better and more efficient design.
